A lightning strike temporarily disabled the lock in August. USACE says it returned to operation Aug. 19, but intermittent repairs may continue.

Okeechobee Waterway locks

Okeechobee is large and exposed. Do not treat a distant ramp as a quick exit.

How much does a Lake Okeechobee fishing charter cost in 2026?
Current published guide rates reviewed in August 2026 show roughly $325–$400 for many four-hour bass trips, about $400–$500 for six-hour trips and about $475–$600 for eight-hour trips. Prices vary by guide. Live shiners, fishing licenses, extra passengers, meals and gratuity may not be included, so confirm the final price before paying a deposit.
Do I need my own fishing license on a Lake Okeechobee freshwater charter?
Usually yes unless you qualify for a Florida freshwater fishing license exemption. FWC states that freshwater fishing guides and their customers remain subject to recreational freshwater fishing license requirements.
What is the current Lake Okeechobee water level?
SFWMD reported Lake Okeechobee at 10.87 feet NGVD29, or 9.57 feet NAVD88, on August 26, 2026. The number can change daily, so refresh SFWMD or USACE lake-level data immediately before launching.
Which Lake Okeechobee locks are closed in August 2026?
SFWMD currently lists five north-shore boat locks closed 24 hours a day: S-135 at J&S Fish Camp, G-36 at Henry Creek, S-127 at Buckhead Ridge, S-131 at Lakeport and S-193 at Taylor Creek.
What are the Lake Okeechobee bass and crappie limits?
The largemouth bass bag limit is five per angler per day with no minimum length, but only one bass 16 inches or longer may be kept. Black crappie under 10 inches must be released and the daily crappie bag limit is 25.
