What bait and rig should I use for Lake Chabot catfish?

EBRPD’s July 2, 2026 fishing report recommends a sliding-sinker style setup. A practical starting configuration is roughly 12-pound main line, a 3/4-ounce egg sinker, about two feet of 6- to 8-pound leader and a size 6 hook. Suggested baits include cut sardines, anchovies and scented chicken liver.

Do I need a California fishing license and Lake Chabot permit?
